The Tonita
The Tonita

In 2008, my Godmom took me to the Half Moon Bay docks to paint together. There were boats every which way we looked--many of them looked like they were worth a lot of money. But this one was had the most character; a humble and practical vessel, embraced in the fog that surrounded us. It reminded me of this little tug boat bath toy I had when I was a kid--but the real boat is lengthier.

All of the pulleys and ropes fascinate me! Whenever I'm at boat docks, I fantasize that a captain will look at me and recognize my hunger to learn and know that I'm hardworking by the look of me. "You there!" They'll call. "Come aboard ship, we need your help!"
